Step-by-step execution guide
Subfloor Prep & Leveling
Remove old flooring and baseboards. Clean the subfloor thoroughly and check for levelness. Any dips deeper than 3/16 inch per 10 feet must be filled with floor leveler.
Underlayment and First Row
Roll out underlayment. Start in the longest visible corner. Use spacers to maintain a 1/4 inch expansion gap from the wall.
Staggering and Locking
Install planks with at least a 6-inch stagger between end joints. Lock pieces together using the tapping block and rubber mallet. Never hit the plank directly.
Transitions and Trim
Measure and cut planks around doorways. Install transition strips between rooms and re-install baseboards or quarter rounds to hide the expansion gaps.
Jobsite Safety
Always wear eye protection when cutting lumber or driving nails. One splinter can derail a weekend project. Trust the numbers, but prioritize your safety.
