How to Estimate Concrete for Fence Posts

Calculate exact concrete bag counts for fence post settings based on depth and hole diameter.
Fencing projects require stable footings to ensure wind resistance and structural longevity. Calculating the concrete volume for multiple post holes prevents mid-project supply runs.
Volume per Hole Calculation
The volume of concrete for a post hole is determined by the hole's diameter (standard is 8-12 inches) and the depth (standard is 24-36 inches). One 80lb bag of concrete is approximately 0.6 cubic feet.
The Post Factor
Remember that the fence post itself takes up some space in the hole. Subtracting about 10% from your calculated concrete volume will usually give you a more accurate bag count per hole.
